Ring for My Mom

It's been a long time since I have been able to make something just to make something... with no specific parameters or ideas.

I only had two parameters to work within on this ring: 1) it had to be done in time for my Mom's birthday and 2) it had to be her style.

My mom is probably the classiest lady I have ever met and I would love to say that I have followed in her foot steps but, be it fortunate or "un", I have a healthy dose of man in me, also. LOL

So, I wanted a classy, yet slightly funky, ring for my Mom. Something for special occasions, as she doesn't wear a lot of rings for everyday wear and I have made her a fair amount of more simple/lower designs... I wanted something unique and, to make my Dad happy, with a little bit of buff also.

I decided to push the envelope even further by making the setting be a hammer setting for tiny marquis stones... I am not sure whether I was pushing my limits or temporarily insane but, amazingly enough, the settings went well. I have done hammer settings but never of tiny marquis!

So, here's the finished piece and a photo of the ring on my Mom's hand after I gave it to her.

The main stone is a 10X14 labradorite cabochon and the setting is Sterling Silver/stepped bezel.

I am pretty happy with the outcome, on the whole, and had a lot of fun making something just to make something... I am going to do more of that, as I do for the holidays usually.
